Bhubaneswar(20 Degree 15'N.latitude and 80 Degree 50'E.longitude)is famous not because it is the new capital of the state of Orissa, but because of its historical and religious imortance scanning centuries.The municipality has two distinct divisions, viz,the Old town and the New capital. The Old town is characterised by mixed land-use which is usual phenomenon with all ancient towns and cities of India. It contains splendid specimens of Kalingan architecture spanning some fourteen hundred years of history, depicting the grace, the joy and rhythm of life in all its wondrous variety.

The new capital, the foundation of which was laid in 1948,was started with a portion of a reserved forest as nucleus. This part was planned with administrative town with broad avenues, self-contained residential units, modern buildings and institutions.Thus Bhubaneswar offers an oppurtunity to behold centuries-old art and architecture, side by side modern architecture on massive buildings and institutions.

During the long period intervening between the end of the Kharavela's dynasty and the end of British imperialism. But Bhubaneswar has been containing as an important religious centre and in 1948 it cane into prominence as the State Headquarter.




HOW TO REACH BHUBANESWAR :


Bhubaneswar is well connected to different metropolises through rail, road & air. Bhubaneswar is having everyday flight to either New Delhi, Calutta or Chennai.  It has everyday, trains running up & down to Calcutta, its nearest metropolis. It is also well connected by road through National Highway No. 5 to different important cities of India. Bhubaneswar's new international airport is under construction and will be completed soon, after which this CITY OF TEMPLES will receive its tourists from around the globe, directly.

Its new bus terminus has connecting busses to all the parts of Orissa as well other parts of India. Orissa Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC) has a fleet of busses to take the tourists to different places of Orissa along with a guide. It has many offices though out India to give information about Orissa's art,culture, and its vast flora & fauna spots.
