The district of Kalahandi is a land of hill-tracts and fertile plains, dotted with historic forts, exquisite temples and perennial springs which evoke memories of bygone days. This is the land where the Neolithic man experimented with stone and colour. The temple bear testimony to ancient and mediaeval India’s splendour in sculpture and architecture.
Kalahandi is rich with varied flora and fauna as well as forests and mineral wealth. Timber, Kendu leaf, Bamboo, Sabai grass and Mahua flowers are the main products while the mineral deposits include Manganese, Graphite and Bauxite in the mountainous regions of this district. As an ex-state of the country, the district is fairly inhabited by tribal people. Their simple and gay life-style are a source of entertainment to the visitors.
